Phthalic anhydride is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H4O3. It is a cyclic anhydride formed by dehydration of phthalic acid molecules. It is a white crystalline powder that is insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water and ether, and soluble in ethanol, pyridine, benzene, carbon disulfide, etc. It is an important organic chemical raw material and an important intermediate for the preparation of phthalate plasticizers, coatings, saccharin, dyes, and organic compounds.

Product Application
Main Applications
1. Plasticizer: Phthalic anhydride reacts with monoalcohols to form phthalate plasticizers (such as dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate), which are widely used in plastic products such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to improve flexibility and processing performance.
2. Resin production: used to manufacture alkyd resin and unsaturated polyester resin, the latter commonly used in insulation paint, glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP), etc.
3. Pharmaceuticals and pesticides: Used as intermediates for synthesizing drugs (such as antihypertensive drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs) and pesticides (such as fungicides such as Amoxicillin and herbicides such as Diclofenan).
4. Dyes and pigments: Used as intermediates to produce synthetic fiber dyes and pigments, enhancing color vividness and stability.
5. Other uses: Used for manufacturing benzoic acid, terephthalic acid, as well as solvents, rubber additives, etc.
